One of the most important things you can do to improve your oral health care is to monitor your teeth and gums. Visiting your dentist for your routine cleanings and exams is an important part of keeping your mouth healthy. If you are suffering from gingivitis, which is an early stage of gum disease, you may notice several different symptoms.

If you notice any irregularities or abnormalities with your gums, it may be an indication that something is wrong. This can include excessive swelling, inflammation, or even a general tenderness in your gum tissue. Other signs include gums that bleed when you brush or floss. Chronic bad breath could also be an indicator of gum disease.

To help prevent gingivitis, it is important to always keep up with your oral hygiene routine. This includes brushing twice daily and flossing once a day. Avoid smoking and chewing tobacco as well as other hazardous products to your oral health. Several other causes of gingivitis include hormonal changes, pregnancy, genetic predispositions, and diabetes. If you are at an increased risk for gingivitis, visit your dentist.
